Paul Potts singing Opera on UK Idol
Written by Michael on June 21st, 2007I don’t watch American Idol for the simple reason that I hate seeing public train wrecks. I often feel bad for them and it’s generally uncomfortable, probably because I can relate so well (especially after my catastrophically disastrous VP status call this morning but that’s a topic for a different post). When Amy sent me this video this morning, I almost quit watching after the first 30 seconds since I was sure this guy was just going to humiliate himself. I’m glad I kept watching.
The piece he sings is Nessun Dorma from Turandot, music by Giacomo Puccini and libretto by Renato Simoni.

Gosh I just watched this again and it did bring tears to my eyes. (It doesn’t help that he is singing a descending melody–puccini is famous for these tear-jerker compositions) I hope he wins.
Like you said earlier, “dude can sing.”

I must say, he took my breath away! Wow. What incredible talent. Love, Ma

By the way – he did win last Sunday. He was on the Today show (his first time in America, I think) on Wednesday or Thursday.

AWESOME and I don’t even like opera! He would change my mind.
