I-90 East through Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. I'd have less mountain passes to cross but Eastern Montana and North Dakota have some awfully long stretches of lonely road.
I-84 SE through Oregon, Idaho, Salt Lake City, Denver and the rest of the way on I-70. Lots of mountains here but the weather next week will be great and I'm much more familiar with this territory. This will be my likely route with a sleep over just outside of Denver.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Or, you could try out one of those new airplane things you see flying over head. From what I understand, they can take you all the way accross the countyr in just a few hours! (no, really!)
Maintanence can sometimes be tricky though..these guys seem to have it dialed though, so no worries..

Well, that’s incredible technology that you speak of but I’m going to be there for 90 days and will definitely want to make a bunch of road trips to see family in Dayton, OH. Though I’m being paid more than I ever have before (including per diem allowance), renting a car would cost me over $1,000 a month and then I would have the the $400 airline tickets to purchase.
For this length of an assignment and given it’s proximity to home, I think it makes more sense to drive to this one.

When I came from Wisconsin to Seattle, I took I-90. The mountain passes weren’t bad at all (it was late September), and I don’t remember too many long lonely stretches of road. On the one hand, I think they go pretty quickly because you can drive as fast as you want, and on the other hand, I had books on tape to keep me entertained. Also, the countryside is beautiful. I would say the worst part of the trip was going through Spokane.
After awhile, driving anywhere can get exhausting, so I would recommend going with the shorter route.
