The Quote
Written by Michael on January 2nd, 2007When I logged into Wordpress tonight to write a post that I now have forgotten about, I noticed that I had received a link from another blog- Not Without My Towel.

This is highly unusual so I checked it out. And…. Well, instantly, I almost fell outta my seat. In the upper right hand corner lie my favorite quote of all time:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -Mark Twain
During my junior year of high school, I was reading some Twain and came across this. I distinctly remember writing this down on my Centerville Cross Country stat sheet but somehow lost it. I’ve spent years googling and looking through quote books at libraries looking for it. And now it found me.
Cool. This finding of this quote is incredibly timely and I’ve often thought about it when moving from place to place. Cool.
I stuck around to read her blog and it’s a good read! Fascinating insights from a person that sounds a lot like me. Damn, I love the internet!

Thanks! I’ve been looking for some Seattle blogs to add to my site when I came across yours.
By the way, I’m having way to much fun with the write to the future page.

That’s amusing.. While I too have a lot of appreciation for the wisdom in this quote, I’m really quite tired of it.. you see, one of by close buddies uses this quote as his e-mail signature, a habit (using well known quotes as your signature) which I abhor.
Despite all the information everyone exchanges every day online and in person, we will always have the possibility of information which you are desperately seeking becoming repetitive and obnoxious to me right next to you (in our case, literally).

Yeah, i’m not a fan of quotes in e-mail signatures, especially multi-line ones but graphics in signatures is what really kills me. Just wait until people start appending audio and video about that cute time their cat climbed the Christmas tree…
Good point though.
