Do Over.

Yeah, thinks look a little different around here as I migrate to a new content management system. I had been a loyal and somewhat fanatical user of Expression Engine but have always had a problem with the fact that it's not open source software (i.e. you have to pay for it). I don't have any problem with the programmer's trying to make some money but the php code was intentionally obfuscated whice made it difficult for me to make it what I wanted to do. Don't get me wrong, EE is incredibly powerful and I highly recommend it but EE was just not for me. I got in on a promotional offer and I'm glad I had a chance to try it out.

You're now reading this on WordPress php code and I think I'll stick with this for a while. The big problem with this migration is that the backend databases, which hold all of the entries, comments and designs, are substantially different and it's not easy to import the Expression Engine entries into WordPress. I will have to design a EE template that exports into WordPress's format and then import that data into WordPress. In the meantime, I will leave EE running and just have a hyperlink to all of my archives.

The design you're seeing is also very temporary. One of the best things about WordPress is it's theming ability which permits the author to completely change the look of the blog with just a single click.

Stay tuned and thanks for reading.

  1. Hi Mike, I like your ‘new look’ so far, and I agree with Pam, the photo you are using of Seattle is truly magnificent – quite inclusive; the snow capped mountain; space needle; the downtown skyline at dusk, gorgeous!!
It appears I need to be on the ‘lookout’ when I take Sydney out to play on the playset that Grandpa had installed for the grandkids – I thought for sure that we were gonna be ‘charged’ by a snorting and stomping deer when we were on the playset last week – scared me – I was about to run UP the slide and join Sydney in the ‘tree/play house’!! Sydney however, thought it was quite funny and tries to imitate the deer by snorting and making her ‘pig’ sound and flailing her head and arms around!!! I assume the deer had a baby nearby and was trying to frighten us away – or perhaps just an angry berserk deer not wanting to share the territory – who knows, in an effort to shooo it away, I ended up resorting to its antics of stomping and ‘snorting’ but it did not readily leave!! Gotta love this country living, hmmmmm???!!! Love Nance

  2. This looks pretty cool Michael, how are you? how’s the eye?

  3. Thanks Alfred. Oh, I’ll be contacting you about a server migration I’m doing. I took on some more dedicated servers that are much faster and I need to migrate you and Georgios Subs. I’ll be sending you the nameservers info via e-mail shortly.

    -Michael

  4. The EE php code is not obfuscated in any way once you pay for the license. Only the trial is encoded.

    Just clarification. =)
